Detroit just doesn't get the message do they ?

"A Classic Muscle Car Reborn "

Chrysler Vice Chairman and President Jim Press introduces the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 at the Chicago Auto Show, Wednesday, February 6, 2008. After a 35-year absence, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 design stays true to Challenger heritage while delivering a host of modern amenities and technology, along with "race inspired, street legal" power and handling - The Challenger SRT8 has a suggested retail price of $37,995,

"The engine is the same 6.1-liter pushrod Hemi V8 you get in a Charger SRT-8. It's rated at 425 hp at 6,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm." ....Dodge says the combination is good for 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, a quarter-mile run in 13 seconds flat and a top speed of 174 mph. (claimed 14 mpg per US gallon)

They made sure that the dumb fucks who buy these things know that it needs this stuff .. just don't tell them we are running out.

Wikipedia informs us that the Challenger was the last of the American 'Pony' Cars. Those conversant with rhyming slang might enjoy the irony

Of course, if you want to drive into a couple of bulldozers at high speed in a drug-fueled haze nothing less than a Challenger will do

I think the image was supposed to be the wild Pinto Pony, the ad man's dream of the ultimate picaresque road movie.. Pony is of course if memory serves, rhyming slang for "Pony and Cart" - Work of Art n'est pas ?

Pony is also slang for crap ('Pony and Trap') as well as being (non-rhyming) slang for £25 - which could, I suppose, result in all sorts of zany, side-splitting misunderstandings in the right circumstances

particularly if a real pony were involved

I think this explains the origin of a devastating tsunami of e-mails about playfullness with barnyard animals which has left Toni Fabuloso in tears and some disarray.
