Ban removed on European pigeon racing

Lord Patel's loft manager has been in an excited condition all day (pic) requiring the consumption of several brown ales to calm him down.

In an unexpected move Defra have announced today that the ban on international pigeon racing originally imposed in October 2005 , will be lifted fromm the start of the season on 1st April 2007.

Pigeon racing from Western Europe will still be subject to the existing conditions on domestic races of notifying in advance, record keeping and biosecurity. There will be a new and additional requirement for all returning birds to be kept in isolation from other birds for 7 days. Birds should also be regularly inspected for signs of disease - which is standard loft practice. Advice on controls for kept birds is available here.

This is excellent news for pigeon flyers.
